OFELIA COHEN nee GOLDSZMIDT

From a skilled architect to an active mother of four boys

From involved community builder to party and event architect

ALWAYS AN ARCHITECT

 

A common thread connects all these unique roles in her life: 

Her intense passion for great food

and

Her ability to apply her many transferable skills in design, organization, attention to detail, and to the big picture. 

Her superb creativity shows through any venture, project,

or task she takes on... 

When she believes she can, she does it, she just makes it happen !

Born in Venezuela, to Eastern European parents, Ofelia brings

a multicultural and sophisticated background, which awards her

the unique combination of world-class flair, style and "sabor".

These translate in her original and divine blend of traditional

and exotic flavors from around the world, exquisitely presented

to the eye and delectable to the taste.

 

She learned kitchen skills at a very young age just by watching

private chefs and hired cooks in her own home. Later on in life,

she became passionate about cooking, and as she established

her big family and ‘heimische’ home, she turned to be a natural

social entertainer and an amazing cook.

 

Without much formal experience, she has always cooked from

the heart and with open arms to share her gifts with all around.

Designing, planning and successfully running parties for family

and friends,followed by many community programs and events,

got her ready to this stage of her professional life, jumping

deeper into the culinary arts and bringing A la Karte to life...

L'CHAYIM !  

 

Her ingenuity is par to none. Her well-thought-out and detailed

execution plans, as well as her resourcefulness and resolved will

to make things happen continue to impress friends, clients, and

vendors alike. As the team leader in her rising boutique cuisine

business, she is the now ALK's ulinary and Creative Arts Director.

While many people do not give much consideration to what, when, and how they eat,

the act of keeping kosher makes food a matter of thought.

Eating is commonly understood as an instinctive activity,

but those who observe the Jewish dietary laws (Kashrut), must make regular food decisions,

timing, and preparation so that eating ceases to be solely instinctual

Day by day, more Jews are making the decision to keep kosher, many to the strictest of standards.

Interestingly, this ancient way of eating, timing, and processing food

- Kosher -

has become a new food trend as well.

Regardless of food trends, A la Karte serves the growing observant kosher community, since 2012

and because of increasing requests to address other dietary restrictions,

we are now committed to include Dairy-Free, Gluten-Free, Vegan, and Vegetarian options in our menus.

We don't pretend to be a kosher authority, neither for other dietary modes,

but we always will direct you to the appropriate authority for advice. 

Even if you don’t keep kosher yourself,

or you don't need to observe alternative dietary restrictions, 

you still may want to offer or cater kosher meals or events,

where your guests may enjoy a dignified and distinguished option to dine.

Food should always bring people together, not separate them, and that is what we are here for. 

 

A la Karte is here to facilitate and elevate a service that honors those with different dietary choices,

supporting the personal growth of those who choose this unique dietary path,

as well as others who for health or medical reasons need to maintain other restricted diets.
